St. Paul's Youth Paint Beta Bridge for Institution of Jim Richardson

Youth Group, grades 6-12

St. Paul’s has an active youth ministry for all those in grades 6 through 12. Our group offers a chance for young people to make new friends, serve their community, and learn more about their faith. Bring your energy, your sense of humor, your questions, and an open mind as we explore our spirituality together. Expect everything from races around Charlottesville to lock-ins at the church; mystery dinners to events where we learn about poverty in our town; from silly games to retreats at Shrine Mont!

Sundays @ 6:15
This is our main Youth Group meeting time—not to be missed! Every week, we’ll be gathering together for dinner starting at 6:15 pm and program to follow— we play games, talk about serving others, learn more about our faith, and ask the big questions. Come check it out, and see what new friends you’ll make!

Shrine Mont Weekend
The Episcopal Diocese of Virginia offers three retreats for youth throughout the year— a fall retreat for senior high youth, and spring retreats for 6/7th graders and one just for 8th graders. The retreats are an awesome way to get to know other youth across the state, grow deeper in faith, and strengthen friendships within our own youth group. We have had a blast taking youth from St. Paul’s to these weekends!

Summer Immersion Trip
We had a fantastic mission trip this past summer in Wise County, VA. We worked with Grace House on the Mountain, an Episcopal ministry in that area that provides housing renovations to people who need help. We demolished and built an entire deck, played lots of outdoor games, hiked to a waterfall, and had an amazing time learning more about our state and how we can serve our neighbors. We hope to maintain a relationship with Grace House and return there for many summers in the future.

Youth Leadership

There are many ways that youth provide service and leadership within the St. Paul’s community.

  • Acolytes & Crucifers. Each Sunday youth help lead worship as acolytes and crucifers. There is a training session in the beginning of each year and then students are assigned to occasional Sundays to serve. Contact: Buck Smith
  • Church School Teaching: Youth are invited to help teach church school for younger children.
  • Youth Led Worship: once or twice a year, the youth lead and write the liturgy for a Wednesday evening prayer service

Christian Service

St. Paul’s Youth work together and individually to live lives of service throughout the year. Here are a few of the things we have done in the past:

  • Gleaning apples for Food Bank
  • 30Hr Famine for Hunger
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Christmas Caroling to nursing homes and shut-ins.
  • Food collection for Food Bank
  • Food for local refugee families.
  • Christmas stockings for teens
  • College Care packages
  • Work weekends at Shrine Mont
  • Clean up for Rivanna River
